Following the receipt of serious allegations of a campaign of harassment and intimidation of local mainly Bangladeshi residents and businesses, by individuals claiming to be their agents. I have written to the Truman Brewery:

Dear Sir,

Re: Allegations of harassment and intimidation of local residents and businesses by persons claiming to be your agents

I am writing to you to inform you that I am in possession of credible evidence that persons acting as your agent have been harassing and intimidating local residents and businesses in order to garner support for your proposed planning application. Given the previously good relations your estate has with the area, I find it difficult to believe that you are somehow directly involved in such matters, in what tantamount to “Gangster Capitalism”.

After taking legal advice, I will be handing over what I have received to my solicitors to hold until needed for any future police investigation. Therefore protecting the anonymity of residents who have come forward and spoken to me in confidence.
However, I ask you to publicly distance yourselves from such action and to aid members of the public to come forward without fear of retribution and give evidence to the authorities.

In order to build such confidence I ask the following from yourselves:

1. To withdraw your current application for planning with Tower Hamlets Council.

2. Publish a list of names and details of all agents instructed by yourselves to aid the consultation and public affairs aspect of the application.

3. Without any delay to renew the lease of Bangla Town Cash and carry. An entity which is a lead anchor retailer in Bricklane and viewed as a Community Asset rather than a commercial entity by residents.

I am happy to discuss the above matters with you in details.

Regards,

Cllr Puru Miah
